Isles defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky, who is an unrestricted free agent, is reportedly mulling over starting the 2015-16 NHL season overseas.
The 38-year-old blueliner with a history of concussions was limited in 2014-15 for the New York Islanders, and was poised to walk away from the Island. Now, it looks like he might not even have the chance to play at all in North America’s premier league next year.
“I don’t anticipate [Lubomir] Visnovsky coming back, so there’s potential for one of our young defensemen to earn a spot,” Islanders general manager Garth Snow told NHL.com two days before the draft.
Ryan Pulock, Brian Strait and Scott Mayfield will likely compete to replace the Slovakian vet. Visnovsky was hampered by injuries all season long, and that may be keeping teams from expressing interest in him.
