The 5 Hole: Hurricane Blows Through Brooklyn

The Islanders (22-18-9) host the Hurricanes (23-20-7) on Saturday night in Brooklyn. Berube with the start and at 10:07, Jacob Slavin puts a laser over his glove to open up the scoring. About 2 minutes later, a Seidenberg shot is defected by Lee in front to knot the score at 1. Prince carries the puck into the zone to kick off the second period, dishes to Strome who finds Cizikas crashing the net to take the 2-1 lead. Carolina answered quickly with two goals from Ron Hainsey and Lee Stempniak to take the lead. Yet with a minute left Nelson snipes one. And as the clock runs out, Teravainen finds the back of the net. Third period had Carolina holding the lead until an Isles powerplay came about. It took three seconds for the Isles to burry one against the leagues best penalty kill and it was Josh Bailey unleashing a clapper from the top of the circle to tie the game. Isles can’t convert on a delay-of-game penalty that dragged us into overtime. Would you believe that Tavares broke his stick in a crucial spot in the game??? Because that’s exactly what happened and Ron Hainsey fires a one timer passed Berube to win it in overtime. 5-4 final.
