Brock Nelson Signs 3 Year Extension with Islanders

As Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers once sang, “the waiting is the hardest part”.  Well, New York Islanders fans don’t have to wait any longer to find out if young Brock Nelson will be in camp, or sitting out this season, as he signed a three-year, $7.5 million salary extension late Wednesday night.  Arthur Staple was the first to report the deal on Twitter.

The stand-off between Isles owner Garth Snow and Nelson’s agent Ron Salcer was made a bit more public on Monday, leading fans to worry about whether or not a deal would get done.  It is Isles’ owner Charles Wang’s policy that if a player isn’t signed by the minute training camp opens, that player must sit out the entire season.
So on a day where the Islanders owned the majority of NHL headlines for both their new sweaters, and the return of Nelson, the focus turns to training camp which opens Thursday morning with player physicals.
