Ht: 6-2 1/2 Wt: 175
DOB: June 19, 1991 In: Mazatlan, Mexico
Nicknames: Zurdo de Oro (Golden Southpaw).
First memory of boxing: Having fun with friends without any equipment and just learning the sport from little gym in my hometown: Mazatlan.
Boxing inspirations: Cementing my legacy in the sport and using the platform to help others. The 50-0 Club is a very exclusive list I’m proud to be working toward. All fighters go through ups and downs and understand the blood, sweat and tears to achieve anything in this sport. I feel very blessed and fortunate to be in the position I’m in today and I will never stop giving it my all in the sport. Hopefully, when I’m finished, I can leave a legacy in the sport that I can be proud of
First job: Selling food and other goods on the street of Mazatlan.
First car: No answer.
Pre-fight feeling: Kill or be killed.
Greatest moment of your career: Becoming a Champ for the first time. WBO Super Middleweight title against Arthur Abraham (2016 on Pacquiao vs Bradley 3 undercard in Las Vegas.) I took to him a Mexican boxing school. He was a very, very strong puncher, but he couldn’t take any movement. I knew halfway through the fight I was going to win the fight. I came to make history, and I did it.
Most painful moment of your career: Hurting my hand (surgery for torn ligament in right knuckle in 2016).
Funny boxing memory: No answer.
Embarrassing boxing memory: No answer.
Strangest fight or opponent: No answer.
Why do you love boxing: It’s the sweet science. It involves lot more brain than brawn.
Favorite ice cream flavor: Chocolate.
Favorite artists: Andre Bocellli.
Funniest boxers encountered: No answer.
Favorite boxers to watch: Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.
Favorite fights: No answer.
Favorite sport outside boxing: Golf.
People qualities most admired: Honesty and accountability.
On Next Opponent Yunieski Gonzalez: Gonzalez is a dangerous fighter. He accepted the fight to face me and that makes me think that he wants everything that I have and I am not going to let him take anything away from me. I have been training so hard to get to this level and I am not going to let anyone get in my way.
