IBO Boxing Honesty and Integrity
After what seemed like an eternity of waiting in the dark, the dam has finally burst for the New York Islanders.
On Wednesday morning, general manager Lou Lamoriello finally dusted off the cobwebs surrounding his drawer of contracts and filed them to the league, making for an eventful morning for the Isles faithful. Four extensions were announced, as the Isles re-signed forwards Casey Cizikas, Anthony Beauvillier, and Kyle Palmieri, as well as goaltender Ilya Sorokin to multi-year contracts. This article, however, is going to key in on Beauvillier. Let’s start out on the financial side of things. Beauvillier has officially agreed to terms on a three-year contract worth $4.15 million annually. It’s a pretty hefty raise for Beau from the 2.1 million he made on his last deal, and he deserves every penny. He’s been solid over the past few seasons, breaking the 15-goal and 25-point plateau in four of his five NHL seasons. He missed close to a month on injured reserve this past season, but still put up a respectable 15 goals and 28 points in 47 games. In a standard 82 game season, that would’ve put the 2015 first-rounder on pace to shatter his previous career highs with 26 projected goals and 48 projected points.

In addition to a few solid regular seasons under his belt, Beauvillier has begun to gain a reputation as a playoff performer. In the playoff bubble in 2020, Beau put up nine goals and 14 points in 22 games as the Isles made it to the Eastern Conference Final, which (at the time) was their first trip there since 1993. The 2021 postseason proved to be more of the same, as he put up five goals and 13 points in only 19 games, another lengthy run to the Stanley Cup Semifinals. This past season’s playoff run also included Beauvillier’s biggest goal to date, and what very well could be the final goal scored on Nassau Coliseum ice, as Beauvillier scored 1:08 into overtime of Game 6 of the Semifinals to force a pivotal Game 7 in Tampa. A goal that Islanders fans can watch 100 times and get goosebumps every single time, a goal that practically blew the roof off of Fort Neverlose, and a play that will likely go down in Islanders lore.
Despite how that playoff run ended, fans are over the moon that Beauvillier is back in blue and orange for the foreseeable future. The player seemed to feel the same.
“Very excited to be here long term, obviously there’s nowhere I’d rather play,” Beauvillier said after the deal became official on Wednesday. “There’s unfinished business in the past couple years and we haven’t accomplished our goal. It’s exciting to get back and I’m happy to have signed on for another three years”.
Now it looks like the only boxes Beauvillier needs to check off are winning a Stanley Cup and scoring that first date with Anna Kendrick.
