Tim McCarver to Receive Vin Scully Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting from WFUV Radio

Tim McCarver, the Emmy Award-winning baseball Hall of Fame broadcaster who has provided color commentary on World Series games for all four major networks, has been named the 12th recipient of theVin Scully Award for Excellence in Sports Broadcasting from WFUV Radio (90.7 FM/wfuv.org), the noncommercial, member-supported public media service of Fordham University for more than 70 years.

McCarver was the starting catcher for the two-time World Series champion St. Louis Cardinals in 1964 and ’67, and currently is in his sixth season on Cardinals telecasts on FOX Sports Midwest.
WFUV will also present multiple Emmy Award-winning television news anchor Jane Pauley the Charles Osgood Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism.  Pauley is the host of CBS Sunday Morning and the former co-anchor of TODAY. Both awards were inaugurated in 2008.
Fordham alumnae Christine Driessen (Gabelli ’77), the former Chief Financial Officer of ESPN, will receive a special tribute from WFUV.
The trio will be recognized and presented with the awards on Tuesday night, October 1, at On the Record: A Celebration of Achievement in News and Sports Broadcasting, a benefit for WFUV, in the Costantino Room at Fordham School of Law (150 West 62nd Street, New York, New York)
The evening will also honor two of WFUV’s exceptional student journalists: newscaster/reporter Natalie Migliore (Class of 2020) and sportscaster Charlie Maisano (Class of 2020).
The Scully Award recognizes the iconic baseball broadcaster, who in 2016 completed his 67th season as “Voice of the Dodgers” and is a renowned Fordham alumnus (Class of 1949). WFUV was the launching pad for his Hall of Fame broadcast career.
“I was glowing when I received the call from Vinny,” said McCarver. “When you receive an award named for the incomparable Vin Scully, you know that you’ve done very well!”
Previous Scully Award recipients include: inaugural honoree Vin Scully (2008), Dick Enberg (2009), Ernie Harwell (2010), Pat Summerall (2011), Al Michaels (2012), Bob Costas (2013), Verne Lundquist (2014), Mike “Doc” Emrick (2015), Brent Musburger (2016), Bob Wolff (2017), and Michael Kay (2018).
The Osgood Award acknowledges the distinguished Fordham/WFUV Radio alumnus (Class of 1954) who was the long time, Emmy Award-winning anchor of CBS Sunday Morning and recipient of the 2017 News & Documentary Emmy Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Previous Osgood Award honorees include: inaugural recipient Charles Osgood (2008), Jim Lehrer (2009), Bob Schieffer (2010), Tom Brokaw (2011), Christiane Amanpour (2012), Sam Donaldson (2013), Scott Simon (2014), Lesley Stahl (2016), Judy Woodruff and Gwen Ifill (co-recipients in 2017), and Ted Koppel (2019).
 
Two former WFUV student journalists will have official roles during the ceremony: CBS Sunday Morning producer Sara Kugel (FCRH ‘11) will host an armchair discussion with McCarver, Pauley and Driessen, reflecting on three extraordinary careers, while CBS News national correspondent Jonathan Vigliotti (FCRH ’05) will serve as emcee for the evening.
