If you watched the New York Islanders win last night, you’re well aware that this offense can go pound for pound with any team in the league. Tonight, they were going to have to be up to that task yet again, this time on the second half of a back-to-back party jumpers for sale against the Tampa Bay Lightning. These two teams rank one and two in goals for per game, and when they met just under three weeks ago, they combined for eight goals, despite the Isles having a commanding 4-0 lead early in the third period. This game was another measuring stick for an Islanders club that had won four in a row on the road and eight of their last ten games.
Coming off his rough game last Friday and since Halak played last night, Doug Weight gave Thomas Greiss the start. Greiss and Co. couldn’t contain the Lightning, as they fell 6-2. The Isles are now 1-1-0 on this four-game trip with stops in Pittsburgh and Boston ahead. Social media recap can be found here:

Butch tends to give #Isles benefit of the doubt, but he pretty much gave it to them during the intermission analysis, in his pleasant Canadian way.

Regardless of the team’s record, Weight needs to put a lot of people on blast for their utter refusal to play the game in their own end. You can’t tell me they are not capable. You just can’t. And EVERYONE can see the problems. Everyone. #Isles

So do we call for Boychuk’s job like we do everyone else or does he get a pass? Genuinely curious #Isles

The #Isles in this game look like a team that was playing in the second half of a back-to-back. Sluggish, making costly mistakes, some pretty terrible defense and goaltending. This Dougie blowout won’t go over well with anyone. Throw it in the trash and get ready for Pittsburgh
