The 5 Hole: Isles Keep Coyotes Winless

The Islanders (4-3-1) host the Coyotes (0-7-1) in a Tuesday night game at the Barclays Center. It’s Halak vs Domingue in their respective nets. Isles were dull early on. The penalty kill was put to the test though, as a Lee tripping call lead to ex-Ranger Anthony Duclair putting a rebound past Halak. Then a huge 5-3 kill lead by blocks by Boychuk and Cizikas, who lost both a sick and a glove in the process. Besides the kill, it was a relatively flat period. The second period starts off with a hard forecheck leading to a turn over that found Eberle who threw one to the next in the direction of JT who tips it in to tie the game at 1. Tavares now holds the 7th spot on the Isles All time Scoring list by himself. Continued pressure leads to another Tavares goal put in after a Pelech shot hits his skate then stick and in. Isles up 2-1. His 36th muti-goal game of his career. The Coyotes kick off the scoring in the third as it was Kempe tying the game 2-2. Soon after, Nelson shoots one on net which hits a Coyote in front and to the back of the net for his 5th of the year and putting the Isles up by one. Then shortly after that Cousins re-ties the game on the rush. Another strong forecheck leads to yet another beautiful Tavares tip off a Pelech shot (3 assists) for the hat trick giving the Isles the lead again with 8 minutes to go. With just under 3 minutes to go a Mayfield slapper finds the twine and the Isles lead 5-3. Tavares picked up an assist and will finish the night with 4 points as the Isles win this one 5-3 keeping Arizona winless.
Next game on the schedule is Thursday night in Minnesota.
