The 5 Hole: Isles Escape Devils

The Islanders (26-21-10) host the Devils (25-23-10) in the second half of a home-and-home on back to back nights. It’s Berube vs Kinkaid in their respective nets. With 10:45 left in the first, Taylor Hall patiently waits and finds Miles Wood in front who taps it in to take a 1-0 lead. However the Isles answer when a Seidenberg slap shot hits Beauvillier in the leg and the rebound comes out to Strome and he chips it over and it to tie the game. To start the third period, Cizikas does a wrap around that catches Kinkaid by surprise putting the Isles up 2-1. “When you start to get hot, you can start to get really hot”-Butch , as Strome buries his second of the night going five hole as well. After a penalty kill Andrew Ladd snipes one far side on the rush putting the Isles up 4-1 for his 4th in his last 3 games. NJ native Kyle Palmieri finds the back of the net from the slot off a turnover to cut the lead to 4-2. NY native Steve Santini throws a shot to the net and it hits off what looks to be Gionta’s leg and passed Berube and the Devils cut it to a 4-3 Isles lead. With left over powerplay time, Tavares kicks off the third by finishing off a sweet passing play 26 seconds into the period. 5-3. Can’t ask for a much better start as 34 seconds later Chimera blocks a shot and goes in on a partial breakaway and snipes one over the shoulder of Kinkaid. 6-3. A Ladd 4 minute high stick results in Hall putting one between the post and Berube’s arm. 6-4 Isles. Greene dives to block Strome of a hat trick on the empty net but the Isles win 6-4 thanks to an explosive quick start to the third period.
