The 5 Hole: Huge W vs Avs

The Islanders (24-19-10) come back to Brooklyn from a tough loss in Ottawa to take on the struggling Avalanche (15-35-2) Sunday night. It’s Berube vs Pickard in net tonight. A neutral zone turn over leads to Colborne getting passed the defense and makes a sweet move on Berube to put the Avs up 1-0 8:12 into the game. Not the start we were looking for. For the next 5 minutes or so the Isles dominated the pace of play.  A few quality chances then Leddy takes apart of the “pucks on net life” and ties the game at 1. While on the powerplay in the second period, Tavares gets high sticked to give the Isles a 5-on-3. Leddy finds Tavares who gives a fake shot pass to Strome who puts it in the wide open net for a very pretty goal. Isles up 2-1. BTW that was Leddy’s 200th career assist. About a minute and a half into the third, Boychuk finds JT in front who gives another highlight reel worth pass to Lee who collects his 20th of the season as he continues to stay hot. Another Isles powerplay and no other than Anders Lee deflecting a Boychuk slap-pass putting the Islanders up 4-1. 2 minutes later, Nelson gets tied up on a break and Chimera picks up the trash and chips one in to make it 5-1 now. Huge win. 5-1 final. Isles are back.
