The 5 Hole: Six Goals vs The Six

The Islanders (22-18-10) host the Maple Leafs (24-17-9) Monday night in Brooklyn. Greiss with the start. 1:23 into the game, Strome lets a shot go from the slot on the rush and buries his own rebound to give the Isles an early lead. It wouldn’t last as our defensive zone struggles continue leading to Shoshnikov and Matthews collected goals of their own. But with two minutes left in the first, a chaotic sequence ends with Kulemin chipping the puck past Anderson to take a 2-2 tie to the locker room. The second period was pretty much all Toronto early with Marner and Hyman getting shots passed Greiss. The Isles didn’t cave and shortly after the “kid line” of Strome, Lee, and Nelson is reassembled, Brock gets a sweet dish from Strome behind the net and collects his 12th of the year. Bailey gets a cross crease pass from Lee off a Seidenberg for the Isles 4th goal of the night. However, William Nylander gets one with just over 2 minutes left and the Isles are down by one late. With an empty net and 1:29 to go, a Bailey shot from the point is redirected by Ladd and we are going to overtime in Brooklyn. No other than Brock Nelson to cap off a terrific night, snipes on blocker side on anderson off a 3v1 to seal the deal in a big win over Toronto.
