The 5 Hole: Isles Trump Kings

Before we get into the game here is a GIF of Wilson getting clocked by Ritchie…

The Islanders (18-17-8) host the Kings (22-19-4) Saturday night in Brooklyn. Ladd, Boychuk and Clutterbuck are still out tonight, same as last game. Berube with the start. Chimera stays hot and kicks off the game with the first Isles shot finding a way past Budaj 2:30 in. Its his 4th goal in the last 5 games and he now is third on the team in goals with 9 on the year. Berube bails out the team on multiple occasions throughout the period to preserve the lead. The first period ends and we get a nice tribute to Eric Hornick for his 35 year. Howie made an appearance in the video and yet again it was from a beach chair. Isles get a powerplay halfway through the second and Tavares throws it to the nets and Anders Lee finds a lose puck and puts the Islanders up by two. The powerplay goal snapped an 0-21 stretch in Weight’s seconds game behind the wheel of the Isles. And that’s how the second ended. 37 seconds into the third the Kings score ending the 161 minute 37 second streak of not letting up a goal. Shortly after a Doughty shot finds its way to the net and we’re tied at 2. Sloppy defensive play led to the Doughty point shot that tied the game. Isles gain a powerplay and almost immediately a Leddy point shot is deflected by Anders Lee in front of the net (again) putting the Islanders up 3-2. Late third period drama ends with Tavares collecting his 8th goal in 5 games putting the Isles up 4-2 and that would be the final score. First time with three powerplay goals since moving from Long Island. Tavares with 2 points, Lee with 2 PP goals.
