The 5 Hole: Isles Demolished By Hurricanes

The Islanders (16-16-8), who continue to hover the .500 mark, head down to Raleigh to take on the Hurricanes (20-15-7) Saturday night. We all got reminder that Mayfield was still on the team as he broke free from the healthy scratch list and fired a shot that Tavares tipped to put the Isles up 1-0. At 16:28, Jamie McGinn finds a rebound and puts it passed Greiss to tie the game. Leddy finds Lee at the point and it doesn’t deflect off JT so Anders puts the Isles up by 2-1 now. Chimera from Beauvillier and Quine opens up the second period. No lead is safe with this team as Justin Faulk collects his 8th of the season and its followed by an Elias Lindholm goal which tied the game at 3. Isles were completely dominated after the Chimera goal to open the period and it ended with local boy Brett Pesce putting the Canes up 4-3.  However 68 seconds into the third John Tavares finds a loose puck in front and buries it for his 2nd off the night. The back and forth continues as Lee Stempniak reclaims the lead for Carolina. 5-4. After a missed icing call Teravainen beautifully deflects a Faulk point shot and it’s touchdown Hurricanes, 6-4. Yep they make the field goal too, Jordan Staal beats Greiss who is then replaced by Berube. Tavares heats up but defense needs to look at some film. Isles drop a tough one. 7-4 final.
