The 5 Hole: Isles Extinguish Flames

The Islanders (6-10-4) host a tired Flames (10-13-1) team Monday night at Barclays. This Calgary’s 6th game in 9 nights. For the 6th time in 21 games the Islanders strike first and it was Tavares who kicked off the scoring off a nice pass from Bailey (Yes, Bailey) for his first goal since November 3rd. Isles were buzzing the whole opening period hitting a post or two and generating offense. Finally a good sight to see. Again Greiss kept us in the game. Pelech took a big hit and left the bench moments later. He would not return (upper body). Monahan buries one with 14:09 left in the third to tie it and as Butch put it “You can feel like something bad was going to happen there”.  Another PP late with no SOG and we go to overtime.
OT leads to Hickey deflecting a Tavares backhand while Hickey shows us a familiar overtime celebration and the Islander improve to 7-10-4 on the year.

Side note: as Butch explained it, “Jiggs has had a lot of birthdays and today is one of them” so Happy Birthday Jiggs McDonald.
Next game is Wednesday 8pm @ Barclays vs Pittsburg. But as always heres the best of #IslesTwitter from the night…
