RADIO BOOM FOR THE ISLES

The New York Islanders in conjunction with WFAN and AM 970 The Answer on Wednesday announced a partnership for the 2016-17 season where the station will broadcast the team’s games.
WFAN will broadcast 30 Islanders games this year while AM 970 The Answer will broadcast 52 of the team’s 82 regular season games.
“We are thrilled to welcome WFAN-AM/FM and AM 970 The Answer to the New York Islanders Radio Network and to greatly expand the reach of Islanders games throughout the tri-state area,” Barclays Center CEO Brett Yormark said, via the Islanders press release.
The announcement was made on the Boomer and Carton show this morning to promote the start of the hockey season next Thursday. In a letter to season ticket holders and then speaking to the media at the teams first preseason game last week, Yormark said that the Islanders were going to have two new 50,000 watt radio stations that cover the tri-state area.
We at IslesBlog wrote a story last week breaking the news that WFAN was going to be covering Isles games after confirming with two sources.
This partnership has been a long time coming after the Islanders have had all their playoff games the last two years broadcasted on WFAN. With the partnership, the Isles will be promoted on both stations with commercial spots, email marketing and through social media.
Mark Chernoff, Vice President of Programming at WFAN expressed his pleasure of adding the Islanders to the stations already expansive coverage of New York teams.
“As the #1 sports station in the country, WFAN is uniquely poised to capture and share the excitement around hockey season with its legions of fans,” he said.
AM 970 The Answer is known for their excellent format of talk, news and information, and by adding the Islanders it’s a great addition.
“Everyone here at Salem Media of New York/WNYM AM 970 The Answer is excited about being a home of one of New York’s iconic sports franchises,” said Jerry Crowley, Vice President and General Manager of Salem Media of New York.
WFAN’s coverage of the Isles begins with the team’s home opener October 16th against the Ducks. AM 970’s coverage starts with the Isles season opener October 13th against the Rangers.
