John Tavares Wins Shooting Accuracy Competition (Video)

New York Islanders captain John Tavares won the Accuracy Shooting Competition at the 2016 NHL All Star Game on Saturday night.

As trivial as the NHL All Star Game and its festivities may appear, it’s no small feat to win the accuracy shooting competition.
New York Islanders captain John Tavares won the 2016 contest by knocking down four out of five targets in only 12.29 seconds. He defeated Patrice Bergeron of the Boston Bruins, Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers, and Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins in the process.
Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks won the contest in 2015.
Tavares, 25, was selected first overall by New York in 2009. Although the Isles are currently in third place in the Metropolitan division, much of their recent poor play has been attributed by fans to the play of their captain, who is in the midst of an off-season when it comes to showing up on the statsheet (relatively speaking, of course).
Selected by the National Hockey League as a captain for the ASG (after Alexander Ovechkin chose not to partake in the event), Tavares spent much of Friday planning out Saturday night’s festivities alongside legendary scorer (and mullet owner) Jaromir Jagr.
P.K. Subban won the Breakaway Challenge while donning a Jagr-inspired wig and jersey. “It’s a tribute to Jags and the great career he’s had so far,” Subban said.

“Johnny T,” as he is known by Islanders fans, has been a hot debate topic by the New York media recently, notably from CBS Sports’ Daniel Friedman, The Hockey Writers’ Noel Fogelman, and Nick Zeigler of Empire Writes Back.

“I think my game hasn’t been as consistent as I would have liked this season,” Tavares told the media last week following an Islanders practice.
The Isles center needs to pick up his game — just like he did tonight — if the Isles want to go far in the postseason.
