Islanders Fans Think The New Goal Horn Blows

If you didn’t hear, the New York Islanders debuted a new MTA Subway inspired goal horn on Monday Night at Barclays Center and if you heard it, you would know it made the roll out of the black third jerseys seem like a rousing success.

You don’t know what you got until it’s gone

Kirill Petrov’s goal was the Isles only tally in their 3-1 loss against Washington. If Petrov doesn’t score, the goal horn would have made its debut on Friday Night, October 9th vs Chicago in the team’s home opener.  At least the fan base now has a few days to calm down or do everything in its power to get Brett Yormark and company to go back to one last heard at the Nassau Coliseum. There’s already a change.org petition with hundreds of supporters and growing to bring back the old goal horn. I expect that number to grow.

Listen, there’s change and then there is change for change sake. In a year of such massive transition for Islanders fans, Barclays Center is marketing the concept of “Tradition Has A New Home” but time and time again it feels like suits in a board room, none of which have ties to the Islanders are trying to create a new experience for fans that are still grasping on to what they left behind. Brett Yormark has admitted to being swayed by the fans before, maybe the latest outpouring of disgust will have him reverse the latest failed attempt of trying to fix something that isn’t broken.
