Islanders Fans Are In For Sticker Shock As Single Game Tickets Go On Sale

Remember the days of free bonus tickets, Stubhub processing fees costing more than your actual game tickets, and always being able to afford to go to games? Well, Islanders fans are in for some sticker shock.
On Monday, July 6, Islanders season-ticket holders were given the exclusive opportunity to purchase single-game tickets for the upcoming season. With the launch of this presale, came some astronomical prices. With such high prices for season-ticket holders, the question becomes exactly how much the tickets will cost the general public on Thursday July 9, when the general public will have access to tickets.
To see the Islanders open up Barclays Center against the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks on Friday October 9, the ‘get in the door price’ is $200 (after fees), to sit in the upper bowl, row 20 of section 210; which has 22 rows.
Barclays Center is utilizing a tool called ‘dynamic pricing’, which causes ticket prices to fluctuate based on time/day of game, opponent, etc. Each game is categorized as gold silver, or platinum. A ‘gold’ game is a game in high demand, platinum is the least. For example, to see the Islanders battle the Nashville Predators on Thursday October 15th, the cheapest ticket option is a mere $45. While if you’re longing to see the Islanders take on the Toronto Maple Leafs – who last season finished 15th out of 16 teams in the Eastern Conference, Sunday December 27th’s 6pm matchup will run you at least $105.
But not to worry. There are plenty of games, including weekends, where tickets start at a manageable $45 and $65. In fact, you could see number two overall draft pick and Hobey Baker Award winner, Jack Eichel, and the reigning last place Buffalo Sabres for that $45 on Sunday November 1st.
As the season unfolds, the ticket prices will change “periodically”, as one Islanders employee said. Prices will be reference to the performance of the Islanders and their respective opponents. As of Monday, no limited view seats were listed for sale, and none are expected to be listed for sale to the public in the near future. Obviously, limited view seating should yield lower prices. On Thursday, July 9th, the general public will have the opportunity to purchase single-game tickets. How much will they run? An Islanders employee in the VIP Services department said that, “there really won’t be any change,” in pricing, relative to that of today.
