ConSiderations: An Introduction

Today I come to your beds, couches, and let’s be honest – toilets, to bring you two facts about myself:
1. I’m an Islanders fan.
…you’re thinking, “Uhhh, great, so am I. Thanks for taking the time to tell me you like the same hockey team I do.” Well, here’s the thing. I’m a very specific kind of Islanders fan. I really can’t talk to you about Fort Neverlose, nor can I claim I ever saw the Cup raised over Bobby Nystrom’s head. I missed all that glory. I’m not even sure that my parents knew each other in 1983.
But here’s the sneaky upside to that: I missed the Fishsticks era also. Yeah sure, I was alive. But I was too busy trying to keep my Tamagotchi alive to really understand how miserable the New York Islanders were making my family. In hindsight, my nescience was a gift. Without it, I have a hard time understanding how I’d be who I am today – a 25-year old Neuroscience major, elementary school teacher with a bit of an awkward obsession with Capuano’s haircut and the 1st line of the New York Islanders (recent additions to this list of obsessions include, but are not limited to, Jaro’s next-to-godliness, Brian Strait’s uncanny ability to imitate a traffic cone, and the Swiss cheese-like consistency of Chad Johnson’s blockers).
2. I’m not an analyst.
…and I promise not to pretend that I am one. You, as my readers, reserve the right to call me out if I start acting like a jerk. This is what you do. You say, “Brittany, what you have just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent column with advanced stats and game analysis were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone reading this blog is now dumber for having read it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.” And with that, I want to quickly explain what this column will be, and more importantly (slash, bitingly) what it will not be.
-What ConSiderations is: A place for me to talk (slash rant) about what’s going on with our beloved Islanders. I promise to keep it snappy and current. And I promise to deliver you something you won’t find in the box score or game recap. We all know that’d be a snoozefest and we lead very busy lives.
-What ConSiderations is not (nor will it ever be): A place to talk about advanced stats. Want to know why? It’s because I don’t know enough about them to talk about them. And I want to silently applaud myself for admitting that out loud, because there’s nothing worse than someone dropping “Corsi”’s and “Fenwick”’s left and right without really having any idea what they mean. Am I right, or am I right. *cough*youknowwhoyouarepleasestop*cough*.
Every week I’ll choose 1 or 2 Twitter questions with the #ConSiderations hashtag, to answer at the end of my column. The questions I choose will be those concerning social media, Isles shenanigans, or perhaps about how AWESOME I was on this week’s PTIsles. So tweet away, Isles fans, tweet away.
