The Bridgeport Sound Tigers have played two games in the month of March so far, both against the Providence Bruins (8-2-1-0).
The Sound Tigers scored one goal in the two games, coming off the stick of Dmytro Timashov.
Scoring has been an issue in this unorthodox season for Bridgeport, where they only play Providence and the Hartford Wolf Pack. Through eight games, the Sound Tigers are scoring less than two goals per game and they have picked up just two wins.
On Wednesday, Bridgeport suffered their most recent loss, a 3-0 shutout to the Bruins.
The Sound Tigers started the game out strong, firing 13 pucks onto Jeremy Swayman, the Providence goaltender. Despite the strong start, Bridgeport couldn’t solve Swayman and they dropped to 2-6-0-0 on the season.
Jakub Skarek was in net for Bridgeport, making 27 saves on 29 shots.
The struggles on the offensive end of the ice extended to the Sound Tigers’ power play, as they went 0-for-5 and allowed a short-handed empty-net goal in the final minute of the third period.
Despite the poor offensive performance, the Sound Tigers were a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill and have killed 23 straight penalties.
Defenseman Samuel Bolduc still leads the team in points with five and is tied for the team lead in goals with two. The first-year pro has been one of the bright spots in Bridgeport this year even though he hasn’t had a point since his three-point game against Hartford on Feb. 17. He has gone four games without a point since then.
Bridgeport will return to action on Monday for its fourth straight game against the Bruins and its seventh meeting of the season so far.
