After just five games with Orebro of the Swedish Hockey League, the top tier professional hockey league in Sweden, playing alongside New York Islanders’ prospect Robin Salo, Josh Ho-Sang’s loan is over. According to the team, the 2014 first-round pick had issues with his fitness.
Even with his 11-month layoff from games and the fact that Orebro had been on the ice since September, this is a little surprising. Ho-Sang had been on the ice with a group at BioSteel’s rink during the Islanders’ training camp and continued up until his departure for Sweden, according to The Athletic’s Arthur Staple.

The now 25-year-old agreed on a loan to Orebro to get more playing time over a longer season as opposed to playing in Bridgeport, which is only playing a 24-game season. However, with this option no longer available to Ho-Sang, many are wondering, what’s next? There’s clearly no desire to have him on the Islanders’ roster this season. Could he end up in Bridgeport? Perhaps, but not until he quarantines for close to two weeks, which cuts into his ability to play in the AHL’s shortened season.
After going through waivers twice with no takers, it’s valid to wonder how, and where, Ho-Sang’s career continues.
