America’s Boating Channel Presents COMPASS “Clove Hitch” Video

Clove HitchAmerica’s Boating Channel™ is now highlighting the new educational video Clove Hitch on its website homepage and YouTube channel.

On the fifteenth of each month for the next six months, a new “Knots-to-Know” video will debut on America’s Boating Channel, produced by COMPASS, the United States Power Squadrons (USPS) America’s Boating Club’s monthly electronic magazine, under a grant from the USPS Educational Fund, Inc.

“Clove Hitch” covers a knot that is useful for temporarily hanging a fender from a rail, attaching a line to a piling, or securing a spring line. The clove hitch is excellent for temporary attachments, but may slip if not pulled continuously and can bind on narrow lines.

According to the video, “When you see an X in the knot with the line coming straight out of both ends, you’ve done it right.”

America’s Boating Channel videos are enjoying higher levels of viewership this Fall as Americans increasingly turn to boating as a recreational outlet during the coronavirus pandemic. Screening boater education videos is an excellent way for boaters to prepare for safer experiences on the water.

The service recently completed the launch of its Fourth Season of highly viewed boating safety videos including “Boater Education,” “Engine Cut-Off Devices,” “Life Jacket Care,” “Behavioral Consequences,” Introducing ATONS” (aids to navigation), “Dispelling BUI Myths“ (boating under the influence), “Life Jacket Labels,” “Electric Shock Drowning (ESD),” and “Social Distancing for Boaters.”
