Another perfect night for Haymon

Paulie Malignaggi once made the statement that rocked the boxing world, “Al Haymon can manipulate anything. What Al Haymon wants Al Haymon gets.”

Al Haymon got exactly what he wanted last night. Gervonta Davis looked good in dispatching a punching bag/hired patsy Jesus Cuellar to win the vacant WBA 130 title.

Before the fight, the handler of Davis, Floyd Mayweather said that Davis is ready for the feared Vasyl Lomachenko but after the fight Davis said nothing about fighting Lomachenko next, instead opting to target the far safer and more convenient winner of the Billy Dib vs Tevin Farmer IBF title fight. Mayweather used the old trick of dropping Lomachenko’s golden name to try to help promote his small-time fighter Davis.

Jermall Charlo won the WBC 160 poind title (Interim belt) with a KO of Hugo Centeno. But curiously made no mention of a fight with Haymon’s other top middleweight Danny Jacobs. (Haymon very rarely ever matches two of his headliners together so as to not devalue boxers he sees upside for.)

And Adrien Broner got a controversial disputed draw with Jessie Vargas. Broner, 33-3-1 and a former four division “champion” continued to make an ass out of himself with another embarrassing display in the post-fight activities.

It was another night of Al Haymon boxing where everything seemed to play out exactly as reclusive figure would have choreographed. Or, who knows, maybe DID choreograph.

“…Al Haymon can manipulate anything.”
