Gennady Golovkin is on the verge of the biggest fight of his life September 16 in Las Vegas against Canelo Alvarez. But the unbeaten 35-year-old middleweight king is taking the humble, play nice approach during this week’s press activities. I was able to pop a few questions to the man known as Triple G on the red carpet before the Canelo vs Golovkin Supremacy press conference on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden…
Question: Are you concerned that your fight with Canelo will be overshadowed by the Mayweather vs McGregor fight?
GGG: “No. My fight with Canelo will be a true boxing fight. If you want to watch show [smiles]…”
Q: How will you beat Canelo?
GGG: “This is boxing. I don’t know. Call me or Canelo on September 17 [smiles].”
Q: I already know you are going to beat Canelo. But how are you going to do it?
GGG: “[Smiles]…this is boxing.”
Q: Did you learn anything from being in the ring sparring with Canelo in Los Angeles about eight years ago?
GGG: “Oh, it’s long time, long time ago. It’s sparring not fighting. It’s sparring. I help him, he help me. I’m very enjoying this time. Right now it’s a new story in this fight. Everything is new.”
