Observations on HBO Ukrainian Triple-Header

Oleksandr Usyk earned a tough win over Hunter. I like Usyk’s very cool confidence and awkward style and stance and how he throws unconventional punches. The guy is tough as nails and has those scary psycho eyes you see in a horror film. Oleksandr “The Nail” Gvozdyk is also a bit awkward but super tough and utterly dominant. He totally destroyed a very very formidable fighter in Yunieski Gonzalez. Gvozdyk said he’s ready for Ward or Kovalev and will fight either one next.  Vasyl Lomachenko is an absolute creative genius inside a ring and this punching wizard can do anything he wants whenever he wants. Lomachenko is the most creative fighter I have ever seen. It’s like he has a warehouse inventory of different punches and moves and tactics whereas his opponents know only two or three different options. Poor Sosa looked like he was fighting five guys at once. If there’s one hint of a flaw in Lomachenko maybe he does have skinny legs.  Excellent show by HBO but I still miss hearing the observations of Larry Merchant and Emanuel Steward.
