Is Boxing Real?

barrymoremotonFloyd Mayweather actually said in 2010 in a video interview on Fight Hype that “I don’t love boxing like I used to because boxing isn’t real anymore.”  Yes Floyd actually said this – it was when he was depressed because he was under enormous pressure to fight Manny Pacquiao back in 2010 or 2011 and he said it in a video interview:  “I don’t love boxing like I used to because boxing isn’t real anymore.”  It was an astonishing quote – an incredible revelation that I still remember it word for word to this day. I remember Floyd was sitting in a car doing the interview with Ben Thompson late at night and he was uncharacteristically somber and depressed. Clearly the pressure to face Pacquaio was eating him alive.  Why would Floyd say such a shocking statement? Considering this Floyd quote along with Paulie Malignaggi’s bombshell quote (before he fought Broner and subsequently signed with Haymon): “Al Haymon can manipulate anything.  What Al Haymon wants Al Haymon gets” – provokes a free thinking ring observer to wonder just how authentic and genuine professional boxing is right now and if the sport is diseased by corrupt forces hellbent on controlling the sport for their own self-interests.  “Absolute power corrupts absolutely.”  One wonders if the sport is adopting professional wrestling and music industry marketing methods of strategically developing and manufacturing artificial talents – because of a severe dearth of transcending American star talents like Ali and Tyson and Leonard – at the expense of letting true and genuine boxing stars to develop naturally.  – Scoop Malinowski
