Does America’s media prefer a Black Heavyweight Champ?

The Fury vs Wilder Confrontation in Brooklyn-media-1Reports this week say that American TV networks HBO and Showtime are currently engaged in a bidding war to buy the rights to televise British IBF Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, who just won a belt which had been stripped from the Undisputed Heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, who had defeated the decade long-standing champion Wladimir Klitschko by decision late last year.  This is interesting because it indicates that the US media networks have a preference to televise and promote the black belt-holder Joshua instead of Fury, who has not been the beneficiary of any bidding wars by any US TV networks to televise the future of his career.  Could the clear inference be that the American media has a preference to have a black heavyweight champion and not a white one? While Joshua is a fantastic physical specimen and a low key (perhaps dull) personality, Fury on the other hand is an extremely charismatic and outspoken character with a vividly colorful, controversial, and entertaining personality, not unlike the Greatest personality in boxing history, Muhammad Ali.  The question begs to be answered: Why is the American media showing a preference to back a black heavyweight boxer as the champion and not the established and proven white one?
