Here at the Miami Open tennis tourney an Ecuadorian journalist Miguel Ycaza scooped me that Segundo Mercado is training people to lose weight in Guayaquil Ecuador. Mercado has overcome some personal issues and is doing well and earning around $2000 a month for his boxing and weight loss training. Of course Mercado is best known for boxing a draw in 1994 in Quito Ecuador with Bernard Hopkins in an IBF world middleweight title fight which was attended by Muhammad Ali. It was an incredible feat by any boxer let alone a boxer from Ecuador to challenge and draw the legendary Hopkins – as Ecuador has not produced an abundance of world class boxers. Mercado lost the second fight vs Hopkins in Landover Maryland in 1995.  Mercado had nine fights after the second loss to Hopkins – winning only one.  His final ring record was 19-10-2 (11 KOs). — Scoop Malinowskinn1
