Mikasa Ackerman from Attack on Titan Is Our WCW
This week’s Woman Crush Wednesday is Mikasa Ackerman of Attack on Titan.
Mikasa Ackerman is the adoptive Sister of Eren Yeager and the main female protagonist in the series Attack on Titan, a hit Anime/Manga Series that is about a world living behind giant walls to protect themselves from these post-apocalyptic giant zombies known as Titans.
The story centers around Eren Yeager, his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman, and their childhood friend Armin Arlert, whose lives were changed when the Colossal Titan broke through the Wall Maria and, by doing that, took everything Mikasa and her new family loved.
What I love the most about Mikasa is her characters depth and the pain which fuels her bravery throughout the entire series. Mikasa had a fairly normal childhood, one where she was cheerful and outgoing, that is until her biological parents were killed by human traffickers. Mikasa’s parents were killed right in front of her and was eventually rescued by Eren Yeager. It was this traumatic event that showed Mikasa how cruel the world is, what she could be capable of, and where she learned only the strong survive. This is what drives her to be the best of the best.
This was a year before the fall of ‘Wall Maria’, when the Colossal Titan attacked, and before Mikasa Ackerman moved in with the Yeager family. One she established a life, she joined the Military and became the best soldier in the 104th trainee squad. After training, she became a soldier in the Survey Corps, (also known as the Scouting Legion, Scout Regiment, or Recon Corps). They are the branch of the Military that most often deals directly with Titans. Mikasa only joined the Survey Corps to be able to keep an eye on her adopted brother, Eren.
Mikasa is one of those characters that EVERYONE ADORES. Not only is Mikasa an amazing fighter, but the relationship between her, Eren and Armin, throughout the series, shows you how relatable and loving these characters are–even in a post-apocalyptic society being terrorized by giant zombies.
Mikasa’s perilous strength and love for her brother, coupled with her being female character in an Anime–that is shown not for her looks or body –but for her straight up badass-ness, is what makes her so loved by all!!!!! We need more woman like Mikasa in Anime giving us strong female characters to admire, not just for their looks, but what their characters bring to the table.
