Yezi The Rapper, Sets the Record Straight With New Album ‘Cider’
Not too long ago I posted about Yezi not letting her ‘Crazy Dog’ go and shared my hope for her to quickly release an album. Well ladies and gentlemen the day has come! As of January 27, 2016 Yezi’s new song and MV can be watched on YouTube, and her mini album can be bought starting the 28th! I can do nothing but applaud Yezi for Cider’s much anticipated release. She not only strayed away from ‘Crazy Dog’ but also came back just as strong while setting the record straight for all the Unpretty Rapstar viewers. The crown is really hers.
From the start of the music video Yezi gives us something we’ve yet to see in the kpop scene, straight up attitude against the system. In a brightly cutely decorated lit room, Yezi lounges on the couch showing her annoyance with the entire concept.
“Talk straight what you say behind my back, only plain speaking in front of me…”
Opens up the first verse as she then makes her way to the director’s station and tears up the script. The shooting is reminiscent of the one shot challenge used in Unpretty Rapstar and Yezi continues to make her way through the building saying she
“…didn’t do anything wrong but say the truth…”
“…she’d rather choke herself than blame others…”
For me that translates to Yezi would rather put herself in the hot seat by doing what she wants than blame others for holding her back because in the end it’s her life that’s affected by the outcome.
The fierce rapper then vandalizes a room sporting an Unpretty Rapstar-esque logo letting it be known that she doesn’t need the show and is successful on her own. With lyrics like,
“You’re calling me with the fingers that once blamed me”
One has to wonder how much shade she received behind the scenes of Unpretty Rapstar for doing what she wanted. Yezi continues to end strong with the visuals transitioning to a dark set filled with dancers, spray painted walls, and the catchy repetition of
“Let’s do it, everybody after me, let’s do it now.”
Everything from start to finish was something we could expect from Unpretty Rapstar Volume 2’s real winner, Yezi. With all eyes and ears on Yezi one can only look back to the fake reality TV show and say, “Trudy, what’s good?” Because Yezi’s slaying!
