FUNIMATION FALL RELEASES AT COMIKAZE EXPO 2015
Walking Funimation at Comikaze expo 2015 brought old and new titles for anime fans to marvel over. Although this is a comic convention, I was shocked to see such a huge anime fandom and presence there. Walking to the booth, I saw some titles that caught my eye and I had to do some research. Here are a few title releases you should get into thanks to Funimation:
The Asterisk War
Less than a century ago a meteor collided with the planet’s surface and the resulting disaster caused the next generation of humanity to develop a wide variety of amazing abilities. In the center of the meteor’s crater lies Rikka, a system of six academies known as the Asterisk. Ayato Amagiri enters the Asterisk as a transfer student hoping to compete in a special battle event known as the Festa. However, he quickly finds himself on the bad side of one of the strongest fighters around—the beautiful but fiery Julis-Alexa von Riessfeld. To stand against her he’ll have to rely on his own sword-wielding ability, but when the tables turn, will they be able to team up to take down the competition?
Rainy Cocoa, Welcome to Rainy Color
Aoi Tokura is having a rough day. He’s used to being mistaken for a girl, but it’s even worse when a captivating stranger on the train calls him a creeper for staring a little too long. Aoi’s soaked by a sudden rainstorm and takes shelter at Rainy Color, a cozy café where the warmth of the staff compliments the sweet hot cocoa he’s served. When he falls into a job at the café he feels like things are finally looking up— until Keiichi Iwase, the man he couldn’t help but stare at on the train, shows up. Did this day just get worse, or better?
In the future, warfare has been revolutionized by the invention of mechanical weapons called “Objects.” These Objects are overwhelmingly powerful, rendering traditional weapons like guns, tanks and fighter jets completely useless. Qwenthur is an un-athletic, but smart soldier who aims to work as an Object mechanic. Stationed at an Alaskan Object base, he meets Milinda, a stoic but beautiful Elite Soldier who pilots her own Object. As they learn to support each other in battle, Qwenthur begins to uncover the grim secret behind the Heavy Objects.
Valkyrie Drive: Mermaid
After adorable “mermaid” Mamori is transferred to one of five artificial islands, she’s cornered, attacked and eventually saved by another beautiful transfer named Mirei. Unfortunately, even after the girl intervenes, Mamori’s attackers refuse to let up. Just when they think all hope is lost, Mirei and Mamori share a passionate kiss that turns the little “mermaid” into a powerful sword in this new show from series composer Yousuke Kuroda (High School of the Dead, Mobile Suit Gundam 00) and ARMS studio (Ikki Tousen, Queen’s Blade, Elfen Leid).
I went as a member of the press this year to Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo. Did not expect it to be such a great experience for a comic, and anime fans alike. I was glad to get the inside scoop on all these new releases.
If you’re in the anime fandom like we are at the anime complexium, be sure to check out these titles!
